OPENING NIGHT FEATURE: THE CIGARETTE SURFBOARD
Oceanside International Film Festival is thrilled to present the San Diego County Premiere of Benjamin Judkins’ Environmentally Conscious Surf Documentary, THE CIGARETTE SURFBOARD. In Judkins’ film, an impassioned surfer, Taylor Lane, creates a functional surfboard with 10,000 littered cigarette butts collected from California beaches. The Cigarette Surfboard becomes a platform to learn from professional surfers who are working to protect and restore the health of the ocean, and the symbol of a grassroots campaign to hold Big Tobacco accountable for their toxic, plastic waste. Surfing is the medium, but the message is universal. (93 Minutes, Starts at 6:00pm & is to be proceeded by Q&A Discussion)
SPOTLIGHT ON DIRECTOR BEN JUDKINS
Ben Judkins is a San Francisco indie-doc filmmaker and avid surfer, passionate about protecting the marine environment through visual storytelling. The Cigarette Surfboard is his feature-length documentary directorial debut. The film has garnered international attention on the film festival circuit, screening at 25 reputable festivals around the world in 2024, winning Audience Awards at Bend Film Festival, Green Film Festival of San Francisco and Cambridge Film Festival, as well as “Best Documentary Feature” at Richmond International and Waco Independent Film Festivals.
